Our Story

Northmere Candles began long before the name Northmere was ever created. In 2017, we founded A&V Candle Company with a simple goal: to create high-quality handcrafted candles that brought warmth, comfort, and lasting fragrance into people's homes. For several years, we poured our hearts into building that business and serving our customers.

Then, like so many small businesses across America, we faced an unexpected challenge. When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, the economic impact was overwhelming, and unfortunately, it forced us to close our doors. While the business came to an end, our passion for candle making never disappeared.

During the winter of 2025, we began discussing the possibility of starting again. We spent months planning, refining our vision, and building something even stronger than before. Rather than simply reopening, we chose to create a new identity that reflected both our roots and our future. From those conversations, Northmere Candles was born.

Northmere was born in the small riverside town of Hancock, New York, where the Delaware River winds gently through the foothills of the Catskill Mountains. It is a place defined by still mornings, open skies, and a slower, more thoughtful pace of life. Surrounded by water, land, and mountain air, our environment shapes everything we create—from the way we work to the way our candles are meant to be experienced.

Each Northmere candle is hand-poured in small batches using clean-burning soy wax and carefully selected premium fragrance oils. We believe true quality is found in restraint—in taking the time to do things properly, by hand, and without compromise. Nothing is rushed. Every detail is considered.

Our fragrances are designed to be refined and balanced, never overpowering. They are layered thoughtfully, allowing each note to unfold gently as the candle burns. Every Northmere candle is crafted to burn cleanly, evenly, and slowly, creating a soft atmosphere that brings warmth, calm, and presence into a space rather than overwhelming it.

We are deeply proud of the candles we produce. From the materials we choose to the care that goes into every pour, nothing leaves our studio unless it meets our standards. Each candle reflects our commitment to craftsmanship, integrity, and consistency—values rooted in both tradition and intention.
